Surrendering Your Ferret

We realize this is an extremely emotional decision; a decision not easily or quickly made. Ferret Rescue's only reason to exist is to help ferrets and their owners. We will provide care and medical attention for your pet(s) while they are at the shelter, and find a new loving home as quickly as possible.

We attempt to keep the ferrets comfortable while at the shelter and provide adequate milti-level cages with carpeting, hammocks, beds, sleep sacks, blankets, water, food and litter boxes, as well as toys and treats. The ferrets have use of the playpens daily, and interact with other ferrets, if they choose to do so. If the shelter sees they ar not adjusting to a new surrounding, they are placed in foster homes till they have time to adjust - there they will get more "one on one" attention (Often, the foster home becomes their new home.)

There is no charge to surrender a ferret(s) - We do ask that you bring some of their food, and a blanket or bed that they sleep in, unwashed so that it still has their scent. Beyond that, if you wish to bring additional items, (Ie: bedding, bowls, toys, cage, etc,) all is of use to the shelter.

All incoming ferrets will have a check up by our veterinarian, Dr. Whitman, and their shots will be updated, and any problems will be treated and corrected. If you have an injured ferret, don't assume that we won't take it in - we will and will take care of it for the rest of the ferrets life if neccessary - we have two blind ferrets, one with a back injury, several others with major tumors, some with brain damage - all are being cared for at the Rescue. Others that have been surrendered that had injuries that were correctable are already in new homes.

Bonded pairs and groups will remain together, unless you tell us otherwise. Obviously large groups are hard to place, so we will depend on your input to let us know if they can be split into smaller groups.

And most important we are a NO-KILL shelter, and all of our volunteers are dedicated to caring for ferrets.

If you have any more questions regarding surrending a ferret(s), please call the shelter at 765-349-0265 or e-mail us at Masonfer@sbcglobal.net.
